Jemino Mawthoh, general secretary of the United Democratic Party said the Congress in Meghalaya is now left to only a “Khasi Party”.
Speaking to the media, Mawthoh said since most of the Congress members in the state had joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), it is now just confined to the Khasi Hills.

He added, “The Congress is now starting to show its true colors.”

The statement by the UDP came in retaliation for a past comment from Congress when it termed the UDP as a “Khasi only party”.

He claimed that Congress is now left with just a few MLAs and is now just confined to the Khasi Hills only. He also claimed that the MLAs who are now in Congress might not always remain there.

The UDP also said that with the current political situation in Meghalaya, they will be at benefits for the 2023 elections.
Mawthoh further stated that the AITC was able to get base in Meghalaya and Garo Hills in particular only because of the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma.
