SHILLONG: Incumbent Lok Sabha MP from Shillong constituency in Meghalaya, Vincent H Pala, is among the richest sitting parliamentarians in India.

This was revealed following a recent analysis conducted by the association of democratic reforms (ADR).

Sitting Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, who is also the president of the Meghalaya unit of the Congress party, has emerged as the eight wealthiest candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Pala is contesting from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat for re-election to the lower house of the parliament.

According to the ADR analysis, Meghalaya Congress leader Vincent H Pala boasts assets totalling over Rs 125 crore.

Pala is owner of assets worth Rs 1,25,81,59,331 crore, the analysis claims.

The breakdown of Pala’s assets reveals over Rs 2,51,59,331 crores in movable assets and Rs 1,23,30,00,000 crores in immovable assets.

Vincent H Pala had served as an MP four times since his initial victory in the 2009 Lok Sabha election.

He previously worked as the assistant chief engineer at the Meghalaya public works department (PWD) between 2000 and 2008.

Meanwhile, NPP leader Agatha Sangma, the current MP from Tura Lok Sabha constituency, possesses immovable property, including bank accounts, vehicles and gold, amounting to Rs 52,78,453.

Additionally, she owns land and houses valued at Rs 2,87,17,525.

The recent data released by ADR indicates that Nakul Nath, son of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath, is the wealthiest candidate, contesting from Chhindwara with declared assets worth Rs 716 crore.

Following Nakul Nath, AIADMK’s Ashok Kumar from Erode in Tamil Nadu, stands as the second richest candidate with assets worth Rs 662 crore, while BJP’s Dhevanathan Yadav T, contesting from Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, ranks third with assets worth Rs 304 crore.

The list of the top 10 wealthiest MP candidates also includes Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah from Uttarakhand, Majid Ali from Uttar Pradesh, Shanmugam from Tamil Nadu, Jayaprakash from Tamil Nadu, Jyoti Mirdha from Rajasthan and Karti P Chidambaram from Tamil Nadu.
