Guwahati: The Congress criticising the RSS and BJP in Meghalaya, accused them of attempting to “capture” the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

The Congress claimed that they were making the attempt by appointing individuals with RSS and BJP affiliations to key positions.

Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh claimed that the unrest at NEHU began only after the BJP came to power.

He accused the BJP of being behind the appointment of unqualified individuals to various posts only because of their RSS and BJP backgrounds.

Lyngdoh also questioned the appointment of a Deputy Registrar without necessary qualifications adding that an individual was appointed with no proper credentials for a position equivalent to Assistant Professor, solely due to their RSS affiliation.

Lyngdoh accused the BJP of allegedly fostering disharmony and polarization.

He stated that NEHU should remain a centre for learning and academics, not a platform to bolster any political ideology.
