Guwahati: The Assam government has nominated renowned scholar Dr Chandan Kumar Sharma and senior journalist Wasbir Hussain as social scientists to the governing body of the Omeo Kumar Das Institute of Social Change and Development (OKDISCD).

OKDICD is an autonomous research institute based in Guwahati that focuses on research related to social transformation and development in Assam and the Northeast region.

Dr. Sharma, a professor of sociology at Tezpur University, is recognized for his insightful contributions to various fields. His expertise in sociology, development studies, and political analysis has made him a prominent voice in public discourse.

He has authored numerous papers in reputed academic journals and edited volumes on topics such as development, migration, environment, urban studies, and tribal studies, with a specific focus on Northeast India. He is also a member of the editorial board of several academic journals.

As a public intellectual, Dr. Sharma actively participates in public debates and discussions, sharing his insights on various issues. He is a strong advocate for social justice, human rights, and democratic values.
