Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday flagged off three bio-medical waste disposal vans in presence of urban affairs minister Hamletson Dohling from the Meghalaya Secretariat in Shillong.

The three vehicles, purchased with funds from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), have been allocated for use in Shillong, Tura and Jowai.

Dedicating the vehicle for the state, chief minister Sangma thanked all the contributors towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

He said the three bio-medical disposal units will prove to be of immense benefit during the COVID19 pandemic.

“The bio-medical waste vans will be used exclusively for the collection and disposal of bio-medical waste from hospitals & clinics,” a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

In view of COVID19 situation, the vans are equipped with a wash basin and a collection tank for the waste water which will be emptied at the treatment plant, it said.
