Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday attended a programme of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong of Ri Bhoi in Nongpoh, where he held a Mini CM Connect interaction and listened to concerns raised by local representatives.
During the meeting, the Synjuk submitted a memorandum listing several demands, including the establishment of a government college in Nongpoh. The Chief Minister said the proposal would be examined.
Addressing power-related issues, he informed that a 132 kV substation is being set up in Nongpoh to improve electricity supply in the area and nearby regions.
He added that the government will also consider additional substations in phases and take temporary steps to strengthen manpower.
On the demand for a dedicated pig market and improved infrastructure, Sangma acknowledged the rising need and said the government will study the feasibility of creating a structured farmersโ market. He also assured that measures would be taken to monitor price fluctuations caused by external supply.
Issues concerning areas along the MeghalayaโAssam border, including road connectivity, GPS mapping, security, electricity, and shortage of medical staff, were also raised during the interaction.
The Chief Minister said the concerns would be taken up with the Assam government, while steps would be taken to review staffing at primary health centres and improve administrative response in border areas.
He also announced financial support of Rs 50 lakh for the construction of the Synjukโs office, to be provided through the Chief Ministerโs Development Fund and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA).
Sangma appreciated the role of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong of Ri Bhoi in working with the government for the development of the district.
