Guwahati: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Meghalaya, on Wednesday published the Draft Electoral Roll 2026 for all 60 Assembly constituencies, formally launching the statutory process for filing claims and objections under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Chief Electoral Officer B.D.R. Tiwari said the draft electoral rolls have been prepared in line with the Election Commission of India’s prescribed schedule. They have been made available at the offices of the District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and all polling stations across the state. Electors can submit claims and objections from August 5 to September 4, 2026.
To facilitate public scrutiny, copies of the draft rolls have been distributed to recognised national and state political parties. Each party has received a hard copy with photographs and a soft copy without photographs. Hard copies without photographs have also been supplied to traditional institutions such as Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas and other notified public bodies, while Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been provided copies for local verification.
Tiwari said the Special Intensive Revision involved a comprehensive door-to-door verification exercise, during which enumeration forms were distributed and digitised for all 23,49,645 registered electors in Meghalaya, achieving complete coverage.
Data released by the CEO’s office showed that 7,75,665 electors (33.01%) were successfully linked to their own electoral records available in the SIR 2005 database. Another 11,70,792 electors (49.83%) were mapped using the electoral records of their parents or grandparents contained in the same database.
However, 2,22,786 electors (9.48%) could not be linked with the SIR 2005 database and have been placed in the ‘No Mapping’ category. These entries will undergo detailed verification during the claims and objections period.
The revision process also identified 1,80,402 electors (7.68%) under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories.
The breakdown includes 81,490 deceased electors (3.47%), 45,011 absent or untraceable electors (1.92%), 42,532 permanently shifted electors (1.81%), 6,701 duplicate entries (0.29%) already registered elsewhere, and 4,668 electors (0.20%) who declined to accept enumeration forms.
The Chief Electoral Officer said all electors listed under the No Mapping and ASDD categories will be thoroughly examined during the statutory claims and objections process before the final electoral roll is published.
