Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma assured the public that the recent collapse of a retaining wall near the Assembly complex in Mawdiangdiang will not impact the ongoing construction of the new Assembly building.

The collapsed wall, reportedly constructed a few years ago, is unrelated to the Assembly building project.

“We’ve been informed that the collapsed wall is very far away from the construction site,” said the Chief Minister.

He attributed the collapse to landslides triggered by recent heavy rains.

The collapsed wall was a separate project undertaken by the Assembly Secretariat, not the Public Works Department (PWD) overseeing the Assembly building construction.
