Curfew in Shillong agglomeration has been relaxed by the East Khasi Hills district administration, following return on normalcy in the city. 

Curfew in Shillong agglomeration has been relaxed from 5:00 am to 4:00 pm of the August 18, the East Khasi Hills district administration informed. 

East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner – Isawanda Laloo has issued an order in this regard. 

However, public gatherings, public meeting, rallies, etc have been prohibited.

The Meghalaya government had imposed a curfew in the East Khasi Hills district following a surge in violent protests in Shillong against the ‘killing’ of former HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew. 

Protests erupted in Shillong following the killing of surrendered HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew in the early hours on Friday. 

On Sunday, black flags were spotted in several locations in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, during the Independence Day celebrations.
