Guwahati: The Meghalaya government is aiming to increase regular flights from Shillong to other parts of the country.
Daily direct flights to New Delhi are currently being planned, with tenders announced for additional routes to Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

To encourage passengers to use the Shillong airport, the government has also subsidised flights, offering a fixed rate of Rs 7,000 to New Delhi. Currently, Shillong Airport can only accommodate smaller ATR72 aircraft due to the surrounding hills.

However, the Airports Authority of India is studying the feasibility of expanding the airport to handle larger planes.
A cost-benefit analysis is expected within six months.
