Partners of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government celebrated their victory in the just concluded by-elections where Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma of the NPP was elected as the MLA of South Tura while Pius Marweiñ of the United Democratic Party (UDP) was elected as the new MLA of Ranikor constituency.

During the MDA meeting on Wednesday evening, all partners of the coalition were present and reiterated their commitment towards the MDA Government.

Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma expressed his gratitude to the MDA for extending support during the election campaign and thanked the voters of South Tura for electing him to represent South Tura.”

“South Tura took up the challenge given by Minister, Kyrmen Shylla and ensured my victory with a record margin. I thank the electorates of South Tura and MDA partners for all support during the election campaign,” Conrad said while expressing that his victory was MDA’s victory.

During the election campaign, Shylla had urged the voters of South Tura to elect Conrad as their MLA and ensure his victory with a record margin, more than the margin he had won from Khliehriat.

Shylla, the MLA of Khliehriat constituency, won with a margin of 8,181 votes.

However, Conrad overtook Shylla’s margin and defeated his nearest opponent by a margin of 8,421 votes.

The Chief Minister assured that the MDA partners would work together to reaffirm the commitment and pledge made to the people to take the State forward.

UDP working president Bindo M Lanong, who spoke on behalf of the party, asserted the party’s commitment to the MDA.

He said that the two by-elections have strengthened the MDA further and the bond among the partners.
