Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik has backed the demand for resignation of union minister Ajay Mishra over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik said that the union minister should have resigned immediately after the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

“Resignation of the minister should have been sought the day Lakhimpur Kheri incident took place… he doesn’t deserve to be a minister,” Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik said.

Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son – Ashish Mishra had allegedly mowed down protesting farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3, resulting in deaths of at least four farmers.

Malik further warned the BJP that it will “not return to power” unless it listens to the farmers.

“The government will not come back to power if it does not listen to farmers,” Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik said.

He added: “There is only one thing which will solve the entire issue. If the government agrees to give the MSP guarantee, I will mediate and convince the farmers.”

Meghalaya Governor Satyapal Malik had openly supported the farmers agitation in March this year.

“I have fought with the Prime Minister and the home minister for the farmers,” Malik further said.
