Guwahati: Justice Revati Prashant Mohite Dere has been appointed as the new chief justice of the Meghalaya High Court, according to a presidential notification issued on January 1, 2026.
Currently serving as a judge at the Bombay High Court, Justice Revati will assume the role once the incumbent chief justice is transferred.
Her appointment follows Article 217 of the Constitution, which empowers the President to designate chief justices for high courts.
This change is part of a wider judicial reshuffle affecting several high courts across India.
The outgoing Meghalaya chief justice, Soumen Sen, has been transferred to the Kerala High Court, where he will succeed Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, scheduled to retire on January 9, 2026.
The Department of Justiceโs Appointments Division, under the Ministry of Law and Justice, issued the transfer orders.
Justice Senโs move follows Article 222 of the Constitution, allowing judicial transfers after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
In another key appointment, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court has been named chief justice of the Patna High Court, effective from the date he assumes office.
The orders were signed by Jagannath Srinivasan, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, and issued by the ministryโs offices at Jaisalmer House, New Delhi.
These adjustments are part of the regular administration of justice, ensuring the effective functioning of high courts.
