Harassment of women on social media continues unabated in Meghalaya

Women and young girls of Meghalaya continue to get harassed by abusers of social media like Facebook and Whatsapp despite authorities taking all measures to stop such menace.

In another case of abuse and harassment in social media in the State, an active group ‘Na Lyngwiar Dpei u Hynniewtrep’ has allegedly posted photograph of a young girl along with a hate and racial comment.

The matter has come to light on Wednesday that a woman of the State has lodged a complaint that on September 1 that she detected one Facebook account wherein the active group ‘Na Lyngwiar Dpei u Hynniewtrep’ posted one photograph of her daughter accompanied by hate messages and racial comment with a deliberate intention to defame and tarnish her image.

Notably, such cases are on the rise in recent times in the hill state.

Many young girls in the State have been harassed in social media in recent times.

Northeast Now has reported earlier this year about a case when miscreants uploaded the photographs of a woman with her husband along with an explicit sex video which was circulated on social networking sites.

Many women activists in Shillong were also bullied on social media platforms in recent times.

Though several rights groups have been urging the police and other concerned authorities to take note of the matter seriously, nothing substantial has been done as yet and such incidents continue to harass the women folk of the State.
