The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has transported 38,000 metric tons of rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to Meghalaya.

This was informed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday.

The chief minister also said the food quota for the month of April under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) as well as Non-NFSA has been distributed.

Informing this on his Twitter handle, chief minister Sangma said: “The food quota for April, 2020 for NFSAs as well as Non-NFSA has been distributed. FCI has transported 38,000 MT of food grains to Meghalaya under PDS and PMGKAY.”

Rice under PMGKAY will be distributed 5kg for free and 1 kg pulse for free to the beneficiaries.

The chief minister further said the trucks and other vehicles, which are carrying essential commodities to the state, have been disinfected.

“Trucks and other vehicles carrying essential commodities entering the State are being disinfected. There is a delay in the transportation of products because these processes and protocols are being duly followed,” the chief minister said.
