Ernest Mawrie has been elected as the new state president of the Meghalaya BJP on Wednesday.
After the completion of the election, the state returning officer, JA Lyngdoh, declared Mawrie as the state president of Meghalaya.

Union minister for animal husbandry Sanjeev Kumar Balyanji and national secretary in-charge of Tripura Sunil Deodhar were present as the election observers.
State returning officer Lyngdoh in the election certificate mentioned: “Ernest Mawrie has been elected unanimously/with majority for the post of state president of Bharatiya Janata Party of Meghalaya state for the period of 2020-2023.”
Informing about the election, the Meghalaya BJP on its Twitter handle said: “BJP Meghalaya Pradesh have elected a new President, Shri Ernest Mawrie, in the presence Shri Sanjeev Kumar Balyanji, Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, etc. and Shri Sunil Deodharji, National Secretary, In-Charge Tripura, as the Election Observers, today on 15th January 2020.”

Ernest Mawrie will now replace Shibun Lyngdoh as the Meghalaya state BJP president.
Mawrie worked as the state convener for the BJP’s enrolment drive.
Mawrie had said the Meghalaya BJP, which started the enrolment drive in the state on July 6, 2019, set a target to enroll two lakh members within August 12.
Ahead of the election, outgoing Meghalaya BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said the process of the election up to the district level in the party was completed and the central observers had visited the state to seek the views of the party leaders and workers on the appointment a new president of the party.
The outgoing state party president also said there are 7-8 good leaders in the party who are fit to become the state party president.
Finally, on Wednesday Ernest Mawrie was elected as the state BJP president.
The BJP has two MLAs in Meghalaya – AK Hek, who is the health & family minister and Sanbor Shullai.
