Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday called on Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal to take the discussion forward on coal mining in the State along with Advocate General Amit Kumar.

The Chief Minister and Advocate General also held a separate detailed discussion with the officials from the Ministry of Coal which was also attended by Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal, a statement issued from Meghalaya  CMO said.

“The discussion to restart coal mining in Meghalaya has progressed positively. The Ministry has asked us to work on different modalities, which is being prepared by the State Government. A team from the Ministry is likely to visit the State soon”, informed the Chief Minister.

Terming the meeting as fruitful, the Chief Minister said, “All cooperation and support has been extended by the Centre to resolve the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.”

In the last two months, the Chief Minister has called on the Union Coal Minister thrice.
