SHILLONG: The persistent issue of frequent power mishaps in the Northeast state of Meghalaya has sparked concern among residents.

Addressing the matter, Meghalaya power minister Abu Taher Mondal acknowledged the challenge of monitoring power connections in every household due to individuals’ use of electricity within their premises.

However, he revealed that the Meghalaya power department is considering conducting audits of electrical supplies in the iconic and heritage wooden structures in Shillong.

Mondal urged the public to cooperate by reporting any concerns related to electrical issues to the department, emphasizing the importance of caution and avoiding overloading in residences.

He assured swift action in rectifying any power-related discrepancies reported by residents.

Responding to inquiries about eroded electric poles and tangled wires observed in various parts of Shillong in Meghalaya, Mondal assured that the corporation would promptly replace such poles upon receiving complaints.

The Meghalaya minister’s remarks come in the wake of a recent fire mishap suspected to be caused by an electric short circuit, resulting in the destruction of the old wooden structure of the Shillong Bar Association.
