Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Wednesday that four major initiatives under ‘Skills Meghalaya’ have been launched: PROPEL, MEGASKILL, SHIELD, and EQUIP.

The initiatives are aimed at strengthening livelihoods, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the youth of the state.

As part of the initiative, trade-specific toolkits were handed over to trainees including tour guides, plumbers, technicians and other skilled workers, benefitting nearly 21,000 trainees with an investment of around Rs 24 crore.

Over the past three years, the Meghalaya government has invested around Rs 80 crore in the Meghalaya Skills Programme.

This has reportedly generated an estimated Rs 150 crore in earnings for trained youth through placements, entrepreneurship and work opportunities in India and abroad, including Japan and Singapore.

The Chief Minister thanked training partners for supporting the skilling mission and acknowledged their role in its success.

He also encouraged trainees to take advantage of the programme and focus on career development.
