Meghalaya police have arrested four persons from East Jaintia Hills district for allegedly transporting coal to Assam in violation of an NGT order.

East Jaintia Hills district SP Vivekanand Singh said revenue minister Kyrmen Shylla’s brother Bison Shylla and three others, who were also involved in illegal transportation of coal, however, got anticipatory bail.

The matter came to light when police personnel manning Umkiang check post near Assam border had detected 24 coal-laden trucks at Malidor area in the last week.

Chief minister Conrad K Sangma had recently removed his brother James K Sangma as home minister for his alleged involvement in illegal transportation of coal.
