State Home Minister, James Sangma on Thursday evening said that internet services would be restored slowly depending on the situation and that the Government was monitoring the situation.

Sources in the telecom service provider in the State disclosed that they had been asked by the Meghalaya Government to stop the internet services till Friday afternoon and that fresh directives would be issued by the Government later on Friday evening.

However, SMS services were resumed in all the mobile cellular companies from Thursday evening.

Notably, internet services were banned in entire Shillong from early morning of June 1 after violence broke out as a preventive measure to stop spreading of rumours through social media.

KHADC concern: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member, P N Syiem feels that the stalemate over the Punjabi Lane warrants urgent discussion with the office of Hima Mylliem and KHADC along with legal experts at the earliest.

Notably, on June 4 the KHADC sought explanation from Syiem (chief) of Hima Mylliem wherein the Syiem of Hima Mylliem gave its report along with the documents to the KHADC on the issue.
