A win in the election by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will ensure that he remains to continue as the Chief Minister while losing the by-polls will pose serious problems for the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government led by Conrad’s party National People’s Party (NPP).

While Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the National People’s Party (NPP) along with its coalition are banking on the fact that the people will cast their vote to elect a permanent Chief Minister from South Tura constituency, his opponents including the Congress in the run up to the polls had been critical of various policies adopted by the government led by Conrad.

With both sides having had their say, it is now just a matter of time as who was more successful in convincing the voters even as results will be out by mid-day.

The polling for both the constituencies were held on August 23 last.

Around 85.89 per cent of voters in Ranikor and 72.89 per cent in South Tura exercised their franchise in the by-elections held in the two seats in Meghalaya.
