In an interesting development, some leaders of National People’s Party (NPP) from Ranikor in Meghalaya have decided to join the United Democratic Party (UDP) on July 18.

Ranikor has been witnessing much political twists and turns over the last few days and this move is seen as a shot in the arm for UDP Ranikor Circle in the State.

In a statement issued in Shillong on Sunday, secretary, youth wing & media cell, UDP Ranikor Circle said the disgruntled leaders of NPP in Ranikor made the decision in the presence of UDP candidate for the by-election, Pius Marwein.

Leaders from the NPP Ranikor who are going to join the UDP , include Robertson Basan as secretary, Blosswell Lyngkhoi and Somor Sangma as vice-presidents,  Fairlin Myrthong and Everson Marak as assistant secretaries, Brosstar Pariong and Sales Sangma as public secretary, Neverjone Thongni as organising secretary and Bralin Marwein as spokesperson.

The UDP Ranikor Circle will hold a function to welcome the leaders both from the block level to the different units at Nongnah on July 18.

This is going to be a big blow to the ruling NPP who has been trying hard to consolidate its position in Ranikor.
