Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will take oath as the MLA of South Tura and member of the 10th Meghalaya Assembly on September 5.

However, Pius Marweiñ, who was elected as the new MLA of Ranikor constituency, will take oath on Thursday in the office chamber of the Assembly Speaker at Khyndai Lad at 2 pm.

In the by-elections held on August 23 to South Tura constituency and Ranikor constituency, Conrad defeated Congress candidate, Charlotte W. Momin in South Tura, while Pius Marweiñ defeated NPP candidate, Martin M Danggo in Ranikor.

The Chief Minister, who is still the Lok Sabha MP from Tura parliamentary constituency, would also resign as Member of Parliament within one week after getting elected as the MLA of South Tura constituency.

Conrad, who took oath as Chief Minister on March 6, would take oath as MLA on September 5, one day before the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government completes six months in office.

Conrad told reporters on the sidelines of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) meeting on Wednesday evening that he would leave Shillong for New Delhi on Thursday to attend a programme in Parliament to commemorate the birth anniversary of his late father, Purno Agitok Sangma, who was also the Speaker of Lok Sabha.

Conrad is likely to submit his resignation as Member of Parliament to Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan during his stay in New Delhi.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister will also meet some Union Ministers during his stay in New Delhi.
