Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma along with deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong and water resources minister Metbah Lyngdoh met a number of union ministers in New Delhi.

During their discussions, the Meghalaya CM sought the Centre’s support for various requirements of the state.

The CM along with Tynsong and Lyngdoh met union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday and apprised him the flood situation in the state and sought the Centre’s support.

He also thanked the home minister for assuring to provide all necessary assistance to Meghalaya.

The chief minister along with Lyngdoh also met union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Tuesday briefed the overall financial position of the state and measures adopted by the state government to increase its revenue share.

The chief minister requested Sitharaman to sanction additional funds for different development projects and apprised her of the upcoming National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya in 2022 while requesting for the Centre’s support.

The CM also held a meeting with the chairman of the 15th Finance Commission in New Delhi where he submitted a supplementary memorandum highlighting four key projects for the state and sought assistance to the tune of Rs 4,340 crore for implementation of the projects from 2020 to 2025.

The four projects include infrastructure for hosting the 39th edition of the National Games in 2022, development of the state as a high-value tourism destination, building cable propelled transportation system (cable-cars/ropeways) as long-term solution to decongest Shillong city and setting up of a University of Culture in the State.

The CM also highlighted the efforts of the state government to fast track development works in key sectors of Human Development, Primary Sector, Infrastructure Development and Enterprise Development.

“The Government is hopeful that the Finance Commission will favourably consider grants-in-aid support to the State for the implementation of these projects,” the CM said.
