Guwahati: Three members of a family were killed after a landslide struck their residence in Guwahati’s Mathgharia area amid heavy and persistent rainfall on Tuesday.
The incident occurred while the family was asleep, with the victims identified as Nagen Rajbongshi, Meena Rajbongshi, and their daughter, Chunu Rajbongshi. Their son was also injured and admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
The incident occurred as incessant rainfall continued across Guwahati, increasing the threat of landslides in vulnerable and hilly areas. Rescue teams and local authorities reached the site and began clearing the debris while assisting those affected.
Meanwhile, continuous rain since the early hours of Tuesday has triggered widespread artificial flooding in several parts of Guwahati, severely disrupting daily life and vehicular movement.
Several roads have been inundated, with the Narengi-Six Mile VIP Road among the worst affected stretches. Water has accumulated between Barbari and Six Mile, reaching knee-deep levels at some locations.
Chandmari has also reported severe waterlogging, with floodwater covering roads and footpaths and making it difficult for pedestrians and commuters to move.
Waterlogging has further been reported from Panjabari and Beltola Survey, affecting traffic movement and adding to the difficulties faced by residents amid the continuing downpour.
