The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has been asked to file a detailed status report on operation of flights from Umroi airport within four weeks.

The division bench which comprised of Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice SR Sen in its order passed on Friday, directed the Additional Solicitor General to file a detailed status report with suggestion(s) for future course of action regarding operation of flights from Umroi airport to metros.

The Court also directed the represented airliners to file their respective affidavits within four weeks.

In its order on December 7, the Court had directed the Director General of Civil Aviation as well as Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to hold a meeting to be convened by the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation to take a final decision on the date in which flight will start operating from Umroi airport.

However, the order was challenged in Supreme Court, after which, the Court in its order on December 13 ordered that until further orders, “order of personal appearance before the High Court shall remain stayed.”
