With the campaigning for the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council JHADC) in Meghalaya ending on Monday, candidates have intensified their canvassing on Saturday.

Several candidates of different political parties organized bike and car rally in their respective constituencies to exhibit their strength while also organizing public meetings attended by thousands of supporters and locals, according to reports.

The campaign end at 4 pm on Monday.

While some candidates organized rallies by bringing their supporters together in one venue, some candidates marched in processions along with their supporters as a show of strength.

On Saturday, State Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also campaigned at some places under Mawsynram constituency for NPP candidate, Alvin Sawkmie.

The Chief Minister addressed huge rallies at Patakat and Sonatola area and urged the people of Mawsynram to vote for the NPP candidate.

The elections to two district councils will be held on February 27, and counting of votes will take place on March 2.

The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has a total of 9,84,477 voters.

The KHADC has a total of 7,35,143 voters, while the JHADC has a total of 2,49,334 voters.

Both the KHADC and JHADC have 29 constituencies each.

There are 1,433 polling stations spread across the 29 constituencies of KHADC while the 29 constituencies of the JHADC have just 408 polling booths.
