A mass protest is being organized on Wednesday by the students from the Northeast residing and studying in the national capital against the midnight ‘brutal police crackdown’ on Manipur University students last week.

The mass protest on Wednesday will be staged at the Arts Faculty main gate of the Delhi University from 3:30 pm.

In a clarion call for a united fight to safeguard the right and dignity of the students of Manipur University, the organizers of the mass protest have urged all students, teachers and people working in New Delhi from north-eastern states to join the protest.

The north-eastern community of Delhi has strongly condemned the act of Manipur Police and termed the midnight raid at Manipur University campus as an ‘inhuman act’.

The north-eastern community of the national capital has also demanded immediate release of the students and teachers of the Manipur University unconditionally.

The north-eastern community in Delhi also said the act is also a brutal violation of the freedom of speech and expression.

Meanwhile, demanding unconditional and immediate release of all the arrested students and teachers of Manipur University (MU) and also to bring normalcy in the university, six students bodies of Manipur have jointly called a 48-hour statewide bandh from the midnight of September 26 till midnight of September 28.

Notably, in the midnight raid on the intervening night of September 20 and 21, Manipur Police detained five professors of Manipur University and at least 90 students of the University.

Internet services in several parts of Imphal were also suspended following the crackdown.

Police had even resorted to fire tear gas shell inside the University and hostel campus that left several injured.

Many students were preparing for examinations.

Later police blocked the entry of the students, teachers and staff into the University campus.
