Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom (51 kg) had to settle for a bronze medal in the World Women’s Boxing Championships in Russia on Saturday.
She lost her semi-final match against Turkish boxer Busenaz Cakiroglu 4-1.
The loss meant that the ace pugilist will now bring home a bronze medal- her eighth medal at the World Championships.
This is her first medal in the 51 kg category.
Her loss at the hands of Cakiroglu did not go down well among some people of India.
Most of the Indian citizens sought a review of her semi-final performance but the appeal was turned down by the International Boxing Association’s AIBA technical committee.
Mary also later sought a review of her semi-final performance by uploading a video of it on Twitter.
She tweeted, “How and why. Let the world know how much right and wrong the decision is…”
