Priyanka Chopra has said that someone from the northeast should have played Mary Kom as she looks nothing like her.
Although the movie Mary Kom was a hit, Priyanka felt that the role should have been played by someone who belonged to the northeast.

She said that while playing Mary Kom’s role, she was sceptical because Kom was a living, breathing icon and she made a place for so many female athletes.
She added that she did not look like Mary Kom as the athlete was from the Northeast while she was from the north.

“We physically didn’t look-alike”, she added.
The actor further said that she took the role because she was “greedy as an actor” to tell the story of Mary Kom.
She added, “She inspired me so much, as a woman, as an Indian woman, as an athlete.”
Mary Kom is a 2014 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports film based on the life of the eponymous boxer Mary Kom.

Priyanka Chopra in the lead role, Darshan Kumar and Sunil Thapa in supporting roles depicts Kom’s journey of becoming a boxer to her victory at the 2008 World Boxing Championships in Ningbo.
The film marks the Hindi playback singing debut of Chopra, who provided her vocals for a song named “Chaoro” (a lullaby).
