Imphal: The Manipur Police Anti-Extortion Unit, jointly with the Imphal West district commando unit, arrested a serving Manipur Rifles Havildar and two suspected extortionists on Thursday in connection with alleged extortion activities in the Singjamei Wangma area.
According to a police statement issued on Friday, the arrests followed targeted raids at the suspects’ residences based on intelligence inputs about ongoing extortion in the area. A firearm and live ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
The arrested personnel was identified as 44-year-old Waikhom Amarjit Singh, a Havildar attached to the 1st Manipur Rifles. Police recovered a 9 mm service pistol, a magazine and four live rounds from his possession.
The other two suspects were identified as Okram Priyokumar Singh, 40, and Thongram Sunson Singh, 34, both residents of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai in Imphal West district.
Police said all three suspects, along with the seized weapons, were handed over to the jurisdictional police station. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
