Imphal: The anti-extortion unit of the Manipur Police, in coordination with central security forces, arrested two extortionists, including a juvenile, during an operation in Kangpokpi district on Friday, officials reported on Saturday.
According to a police bulletin, they were apprehended while stopping trucks at Pangmoul village under Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station in Kangpokpi district to extort money.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjamang Haokip (43) of Pangmoul village and Henminlun, alias Boilun Misao (18), of Kangchup Ponlien village in Kangpokpi district.
Thangjamang Haokip was handed over to the concerned police station, while the juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for proper rehabilitation, the report stated.
The arrests were made as security forces intensified search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.
The report further stated that the movement of 288 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured.
Police said strict security measures have been put in place at all vulnerable locations, with security convoys deployed along sensitive stretches to ensure the free and safe movement of vehicles.
A total of 114 nakas/checkpoints have been installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley.
