Imphal: Security forces on Wednesday arrested three cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Politburo Standing Committee (PSC), including a woman, who were involved in causing an explosion near Imphal Airport on May 3, 2026.
Rs 6.81 lakhs in cash, three communication devices and some incriminating documents were recovered from them in a series of operations conducted at multiple locations across the valley districts, officials reported on Thursday.
In the first operation, the central and state forces arrested an active cadre of the KCP- PSC who was involved in causing an explosion near Imphal Airport on May 3, 2026.
Officials stated that Laishram Ibomcha Meitei (47) of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East district was caught from his residence. The arrestee has been remanded to police custody for ten days.
During the second operation, the joint team also arrested a woman active cadre of KCP (PSC), Salam Ongbi Konjengbam Karuna Devi (51) alias Pipik of Sagolband Meino Leirak, Imphal West district, from her residence. From her possession, Rs. 6.81 lakhs in cash were recovered.
Finally, an active cadre of KCP (PSC), Haobam Johnson Meitei (25) alias Sanathoi alias Sagei of Lamlongei Awang Leikai, Lamsang-PS, Imphal West district, was apprehended from his residence. During these operations, in total, six telecommunication devices used in anti-social activities and some incriminating documents were recovered.ย
Officials said that police are on the hunt to arrest those involved in a powerful explosion that went off at around 11:50 am at Malom, near Imphal Airport, on May 3, 2026, though no injuries or damages were reported. The incident site is also close to an army camp.
The CCTV footage from the area suggests that an unidentified individual arrived on a two-wheeler, planted the explosive device, and then fled the scene.
The banned KCP has claimed responsibility for the bomb blast to protest the frequent bandhs, blockades, and shutdowns, which have affected normal life in the state.
