After deferring the university semester examination that had been scheduled for September 4, the examinations of MA/M Sc/M Com/MCA scheduled for September 7 and 8 have been cancelled “due to prevailing situation in the campus.”  The Controller of Examination (in charge) A Narayan Singh of Manipur University issued an order on Friday.

Meanwhile the All Tribal Students Union Manipur has urged the authorities concerned at Manipur University not to cancel the classes of the University.

Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) volunteers staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan in Imphal demanding restoration of normalcy in the university around 3 pm on Friday. The MUSU volunteers staged demonstration after a team of MUSU headed by its president M Dayaman called on the governor Dr Najma Heptulla who is the chief rector of Manipur University and appraised her about the prevailing situation in the university.

A huge posse of  armed and unarmed police personnel rushed to the area when another MUSU team shouting slogans and holding play cards which read “Go back A P Pandey,” “We want immediate action,”  moved towards the Raj Bhavan gate from Keishampat side.

Later the police team picked up the students in three vans without much confrontation from the Raj Bhavan gate.

Manipur University, closed for almost three months following indefinite shutdown by students demanding removal of Vice Chancellor A P Pandey over alleged irregularities, returns to normalcy only after signing a Memorandum of Agreement between the HRD Ministry, state and university community on August 16 and resumed normal classes from August 23.

At this juncture the two-member independent enquiry committee set up to probe charges levelled against the VC Pandey has initiated its process since Thursday. The committee also invited the stakeholders to give their statement before the probe panel headed by former acting chief justice T Nandakumar Singh of Meghalaya High Court. Former vice chancellor of Tezpur University M K Choudhury is also the member of the committee.
