Guwahati: A joint team of the Indian Army and Manipur police on Monday, May 27, apprehended an individual along with arms and ammunition from the state’s Bishnupur district.  

On receipt of information regarding suspicious movement of armed miscreants in the district’s Kwakta Santhong area, troops of the Indian Army along with the state police while carrying out a joint operation intercepted a vehicle at the check post set up by the team, Kohima-based defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) said in a statement.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, the security forces recovered a M16 assault rifle with a magazine and eight live rounds of ammunition, and a pistol along with two live rounds of bullets.

The only occupant of the vehicle was soon apprehended by the team, it added.

The apprehended individual, seized arms and ammunition, and the vehicle were later handed over to the state police for further investigation, it further said.
