Braving the seasonal drizzling, the Sainik School, Imphal celebrated Van Mahotsav, the festival of forest as part of its week-long celebrations all over the country at its Pangei campus, 10 km north of Imphal on Saturday.

Manipur State Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, Commissioner of Higher Education & School H Deleep Singh, accompanied by D John Sha, Assistant Conservator of Forest, Central Forest Division, Imphal attended the celebrations.

Group Captain HCS Chauhan, Principal of Sainik School, Imphal, the subordinate officers, ex-students, other staff members and cadets of the school welcomed the State Chief Secretary who led officials on the occasion.

In his speech at end of the plantation session, State Chief Secretary Babu reiterated the importance of plants and trees in safeguarding the mother Earth.

He appreciated the cadets for their enthusiasm and vigour during the occasion.

Acknowledging their outstanding performance in academics extra-curricular activities and others the urged them to participate in such occasions and also to work hard in life for a bright and brilliant future.

A total of 1022 saplings were planted inside the school campus.

The school principal presented the school memento to the visiting officials to mark the occasion.

It may be mentioned that the week-long Van Mahotsav was celebrated under the aegis of the State Forest Department across all the 16 district s of the State since July 4.

The State Forest Department targets to plant at least 10,000 saplings in each district of the State.
