Ruati Buongpui Johnsen, a Manipur native, now settled in the United States (US), has drawn attention of all after her picture stitching face masks for the COVID19 frontline workers went viral on social media.
Ruati Buongpui, who is now 50 years old, originally hails from Churachandpur district of Manipur.
She was married to Thor Johnsen of Norway and is now settled in Houston of Texas in the US.
Stitching face masks for the COVID19 warriors, Ruati Buongpui has joined the global fight against the deadly virus which has affected so far 4.06 million people globally and claimed 2.8 lakh.
The US has recorded 1.36 million COVID19 positive cases with 80,199 deaths.
India has registered 62,939 confirmed COVID19 cases with 1,981 deaths.
Ruati Buongpui has set a noble example by distributing the face masks, that she stitches, to the COVID19 frontline workers for free.
Her initiative at the time of the crisis has been recognised and applauded by the US Embassy in India.
The US Embassy in New Delhi on Sunday shared a picture of Ruati Buongpui stitching face mask in Texas on their Twitter handle.
The US Embassy in New Delhi tweeted: “#DostiUnitesUsFlag of United StatesFlag of India: Manipur native Ruati Buongpui Johnsen, now settled in the U.S., is setting a noble example by stitching face masks & distributing them to #COVID19 frontline workers in Texas…for free.”

According to reports, the Manipur native has also distributed face masks for nurses from Manipur who have been serving in hospitals in the New York city.
