Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday informed the state assembly about significant strides made in the government’s ongoing war against drugs.
He revealed that law enforcement agencies have seized massive quantities of narcotics and arrested over 3,000 individuals involved in the drug trade since 2017.

Addressing the assembly during the consideration and passing of the Manipur appropriation bill, Chief Minister Singh highlighted the government’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
He stated that the seizures include a staggering 310.35 kilograms of heroin, 300.38 kilograms of brown sugar, 1800 kilograms and 225 liters of opium, 858.55 kilograms of WY tablets, and 3200 kilograms of poppy.
A total of 3004 individuals have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with 2024 cases registered.

Additionally, 117 people have been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Expressing concern over the environmental impact of poppy cultivation, Chief Minister Singh said that the seizures were made across both hill and valley districts.
He reiterated the Manipur government’s resolve to combat drug trafficking and its associated problems.
