The National People’s Party (NPP) has agreed to stay on as an ally with the N Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur.
An NPP delegation led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma along with Manipur deputy CM Y Joykumar met union home minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda, assuring NPP’s support to the BJP government in Manipur.
Tweeting about the meeting Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the convener of the BJP-led North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), in a tweet said, “An NPP delegation led by @SangmaConrad and Dy Chief Minister of Manipur Sri Y Joy Kumar Singh met Honble Home minister Sri @AmitShah ji today in New Delhi. Both @BJP4India and NPP will continue to work together for the development of Manipur”.

With the NPP staying as an ally of the N Biren Singh government in Manipur, the BJP seems to have a comfortable majority in the state assembly.
With NPP support, the BJP now has the support of 18 MLAs of its own, 4 NPP MLAs, four MLAs from the Naga People’s Front and one MLA from the Lok Janshakti Party.
In the 52-member house, the BJP now has the support of 27 MLAs.
