Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made its first arrest in connection with the alleged killings of four civilians in Bishnupur, Manipur on January 18.

The arrested individual, Lunminsei Kipgen (also known as Langinmang, Mang, and Levi), is a resident of Manipur who was already incarcerated in an Assam jail for another case.

According to a statement released by the NIA, Kipgen was formally arrested on Saturday at the central jail under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967 and the Arms Act.

The NIA stated that Kipgen’s involvement in the murders of four civilians who were shot near a water treatment plant in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Bishnupur.

The victims were identified as Oinam Bamonjao Singh (63), Thiyam Somen Singh (50), Ningthoujam Nabadip Meetei (39), and Oinam Manitomba Singh (32).
