Imphal: Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of two children in Manipur, describing the incident as “horrific” and deeply disturbing.

The incident occurred in Bishnupur district, where suspected Kuki militants allegedly hurled a bomb at a residential house earlier this week. The attack claimed the lives of a five-year-old boy and a six-month-old girl, triggering widespread outrage and protests across the state.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief said the use of what she termed a “military-grade weapon” against civilians, particularly children, was “deeply condemnable.”

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Mufti expressed anguish over the loss of innocent lives and raised concerns over what she described as a lack of response from those in authority.

Without naming any individual or party, she criticised the “pin-drop silence” surrounding the incident, stating that the absence of prompt action was equally troubling. She further alleged that political priorities often overshadow fundamental human rights and justice, particularly during times of crisis.

The killings have further heightened tensions in Manipur, with protests continuing in several areas as residents demand accountability and stronger measures to ensure civilian safety.
