Mary beat the Strandja Cup gold medallist and recorded a 4-1 win against her in a split decision. Both Mary and Nikhat performed their best in the 51kg category.
However, after winning the semi-final round, Mary later vent her anger on Nikhat because of the comments she had made earlier in front of the media about the sixth time world boxing champion.
Nikhat had said that she was very excited to be facing her idol Mary and will try her very best to compete against the ace boxer.
After winning the semi-final, Mary told the media that she had been fighting for many years but still every bout is a new kind of experience for her.
She also said that she came to know from the media that Nikhat is challenging her and even considered her as an idol.
Mary further said that after winning only one medal in the international level, Nikhat has become too egoistic to challenge a senior boxer.
The 36-year-old further said that she became irritated and disturbed after coming to know of Nikaht’s comments but it had made her determined to perform well in the competiton.
She added that if Nikhat had claimed Mary as her idol, she should have shown respect instead of challenging her.
Mary also added that junior boxers like Nikhat are lucky to play against her and they will get more experience after playing against her who had bagged many medals in a number of boxing tournaments.
Mary will be facing Vanlal Duati of Mizoram in the final round on Friday.
