Manipur’s RD & PR Dept bags eight national awards

The department of rural development & panchayati raj (RD&PR), Manipur bagged 8 national awards for outstanding performance in the implementation of various rural development programmes in 2019-20.

The ministry of rural development (MoRD), department of rural development, the government of India has recommended the rural engineering department (RED), Manipur for outstanding efforts in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Manipur.

The State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Manipur under the directorate of rural development & panchayati raj, Manipur was selected as Best Performing SIRD in Northeast and Himalayan region for imparting highest number of training programmes and providing training to the highest number of trainees.

In the implementation of MGNREGA, Moreh block in Chandel district emerged the 2nd best block in the country for timely payment of wages.

The Thorcham village under Chakpikarong block of Chandel district was declared the best performing Gram Panchayat/village authority (hills).

In the implementation of rural housing scheme, particularly Pradhan Mantri Awaj Yojana (Gramin), Chandel district is ranked as the best district in the category of one thousand houses target.

The MoRD also announced individual awards to field functionaries who are actively involved in the successful implementation of the rural housing schemes.

It also stated that Pradhan Amom Bina Devi of Wangoo Gram Panchayat in Moirang block of Bishnupur district is recommended for the award in the best Gram Pradhan/Mukhiya category.

Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) Wahengbam Bimolchand Singh of the directorate of rural development & panchayati raj, Manipur was selected as the best village development official in recognition of his untiring efforts in successful implementation of PMAY (G) in Wangoo Gram Panchayat.

Wahengbam Bimolchand Singh is currently posted in Moirang block of Bishnupur district.

Rural development and panchayati raj minister Th. Biswajit expressed jubilation on the achievements of the department of rural development & panchayati raj, Manipur at the national level, the official sources said.

The minister also lauded the efforts of officials and the elected representatives who have contributed outstandingly for rural development of the state.

The union minister of rural development & panchayati raj, Narendra Singh Tomar will distribute the annual awards to the recipients at New Delhi on December 19, it further added.
