Mumbai based H&S Spices on Saturday airlifted five quintals of organic turmeric grown in Tamenglong district for the first phase from Bir Tikendrajit International airport in Imphal.
The powdered form of Tamenglong turmeric was supplied from Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under the aegis of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, sources said.
The day’s sending off event of the Horticulture product at the International Airport, seven km south of Imphal, was attended by forest minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar who also holds horticulture portfolio.
Addressing media persons, minister Shyamkumar said the turmeric produced in Tamenglong district is consumed by people across the country and is in high demand.
He said the high demand of the organic turmeric and other produces’ of the State will increase the income of the farmers who are registered under MOMA.

He added the airlifted turmeric powder will be taken to other places from Mumbai city.
Lauding the officials and farmers working under the MOMA for sincerely and diligently working towards achieving the goal, he said if they continue their hard work, the organic produces/products of the State will surely make a name in the world.
On the other hand, mission director K Devadutta Sharma of MOMA said Lakadong variety of turmeric is one of the five crops which were grown organically since 2016 in the State, as it is identified as export oriented crop.
He said the organically certified Lakadong variety of turmeric has high level of curcumin and the buyers are ready to pay high premium.
He hoped that the turmeric which has high demand across the country will surely improve the livelihood and income of the farmers registered under the MOMA.
The Diocesan Social Service Society-Imphal, a service provider is working with the registered farmers of MOMA in Tamenglong, Noney and Ukhrul districts.
