With 284 new positive cases, Manipur’s COVID19 tally on Tuesday crossed the 16,000-mark, taking the state’s total to 16,062.

COVID 19 common control room in Imphal in a press release on Tuesday said 277 persons from the general population and 7 from the central armed police force were confirmed as new COVID19 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

The positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West,Imphal East, Thoubal, Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kakching, Noney, Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Senapati and Bishnupur, the release said.

Four from the general population are returnees from other states while the rest are locals without any significant travel history.

They are being shifted to the COVID care facilities, the release said.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the last 24 hours, four males aged 58 years (Churachandpur), 79 years (Thoubal), 62 years (Imphal West) and 41 years (Imphal East) expired at Shija hospital (3)and RIMS (1), the release said.

The cumulative number of deaths is 121.

The state reported its first death due to COVID19 on July 29 while the first COVID19 positive case was detected on March 24.

Meanwhile, 146 persons were discharged from 17 COVID care facilities in the last 24 hours after they were found COVID19 free on RT PCR test, it added.

The cumulative numbers of active and recovered cases are 3,882 and 12,059 respectively, it added.

The recovery rate is 75.07%.

As of Tuesday, 4,15,458 people were screened at various entry points into the state, while 3,25,782 individuals were tested for the disease, said officials.
