Guwahati: A woman from Manipur and her transgender friend from Assam were reportedly assaulted near the Saket District Court Complex in South Delhi on Sunday evening after they objected to remarks made by a group of men, police said.
According to the complaint, the woman and her friend were walking through a park when the men allegedly made inappropriate remarks.
An officer said the situation escalated when one of the women raised an objection, leading to a physical confrontation. โThe woman was reportedly assaulted, and belts were allegedly used by the attackers,โ the officer added.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where initial assessments indicate she suffered minor injuries and is now stable.
Police confirmed they have been in touch with the woman and are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have promised strict action against those involved.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects and are checking whether they reside locally.
This incident follows a recent case in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, where a couple allegedly hurled racial slurs at three students from Arunachal Pradesh. The Delhi Police registered a case and later arrested the couple.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had met the affected students, assuring them support and justice. She said that mistreatment, unfairness, or racial abuse will not be tolerated in the city.
