IMPHAL: The Manipur government has disbursed ex-gratia payments of Rs 10 lakhs each to the families indigenous individuals who lost their lives in the ongoing violence that commenced on May 3 last year in Manipur.
Despite a total of 221 casualties during this period, there remain 107 cases of unclaimed ex-gratia as of present.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh, while responding to a supplementary question posed by Congress (opposition) MLA Th Lokeshwor in the state assembly on Monday (March 04), disclosed this information.
The financial assistance has been provided “following rigorous official procedures and the identification of deceased individuals” involved in the ongoing violence.

However, the ex-gratia payments for the remaining 107 individuals who perished in the Manipur violence are still pending due to the failure to produce proper documentation, including Aadhaar cards/electoral cards, by their next of kin.
As the violence entered its tenth month on Sunday (March 03), the death toll stands at 221 individuals, including 12 security personnel and 209 civilians, with two children among the deceased.
Additionally, approximately 35 individuals from the conflicting groups—the Kukis and Meiteis—are reported missing thus far in Manipur.
