Manipur University Students Union, (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs Association (MUSA) on Sunday condemned the attempt to burn down the Indoor Stadium of the university by some unidentified persons on July 7 night.
Terming it a devious effort to derail the legitimate, democratic and peaceful movement of the University Community for restoring sense, justice and propriety in Manipur University by removing the Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, the joint meeting of MUSU,MUTA and MUSA also resolved that the University authority should be held responsible for the arson incident and unwanted consequences.

The University is reeling under crisis over the demand of the removal of the Vice Chancellor Prof Adya Prasad Pandey from his position in the “academic interest,” after MUSU launched indefinite shutdown since May 30.
The MUSU demands removal of the VC Pandey over 15 allegations of financial and administrative irregularities.The agitation of MUSU was supported by MUTA and MUSA.
The crisis had forced to defer the post graduate examination of the university besides affecting the academic atmosphere of more than 50,000 students studying in the 97 affiliated colleges across the state. Even the six semester examination result could not be declared yet.

Meanwhile state education minister Th Radheshyam accompanied by SP Imphal West district Haobijam Jogeshchandra inspected the indoor stadium on Sunday morning.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Radheshyam informed that the government has been taking various steps to resolve the university crisis by contacting the concerned central minister etc.
After All India Students’ Federation Manipur state council’s announcement to support the ongoing agitation in the university, the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur urged the State Government and the Central Government to resolve the crisis at the university by July 15 or face intense agitation from the midnight of July 15.
