Unidentified militants on Saturday night detonated a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) in the border town of Moreh in Manipur.
Police officials said the bomb exploded near the police station at Moreh. Fortunately, there was no casualty as the incident occurred at around 10.15 pm.

The blast left a crater of about six feet in diameter on the road, Lekhohao Waiphei, an official of Moreh police station, said.
“Hearing the deafening sound of the explosion, we rushed to the spot,” Waiphei said, adding that Assam Rifles personnel also reached the site of explosion within 15 minutes.
In the impact of the blast, a power transformer was damaged, Waiphei said. The border town was plunged into darkness immediately after the blast.

Subsequently, the Assam Rifles team led by Col. Sumit Sood, commanding officer of the 43 Battalion, launched a massive cordon and search operation in the area to nab the militants.
Surprisingly, no militant outfit claimed responsibility for the explosion till Sunday afternoon. No arrests have been made in the connection of the IED blast.
The town of Moreh is located along the porous Indo-Myanmar border, and militants often sneak in from across the border and carry out subversive activities.
Police have registered a suo moto case for the IED blast, and have started investigating the case.
